Rather than having to experience fried chicken in all its originality, pound it flat, add ham and cheese, then roll it tightly to create something that has the same texture but a vastly different flavor profile. Chicken Cordon Bleu
Ingredients
- 1 pc. whole chicken breast (butterfly cut)
- 1 pc. Maggi Magic Sarap
- Season with black pepper
- 4 pcs. chicken ham
- 4 pcs. melting cheese, sliced
For Gravy:
- 4 Tbsps. butter
- 4 Tbsps. flour
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- ½ cup button mushrooms
- 1 tsp. mustard
- 1 ½ cup water
- ½ Tbsp. Maggi Magic Sarap
- ½ cup all-purpose cream
- ½ cup melting cheese
- Season with salt and black pepper
Dredging:
- Egg, seasoned with salt
- Flour, seasoned with garlic powder, salt, black pepper, and paprika
- Breadcrumbs
For Frying:
- Oil, for frying
Instructions
- Prepare the chicken breast. Butterfly it so you have a flat surface. Cover it with a plastic wrap and pound it until you have a thin and even layer of chicken. Once it has been flattened, transfer it to a baking tray.
- Season with Maggi Magic Sarap and black pepper. Place a slice of chicken ham and cheese on it, then roll it. Wrap it tightly in plastic wrap. Place it on a baking tray and chill it for at least 30 minutes.
- In a pot, melt the butter. Add the flour and mix until it becomes smooth. After letting it cook for a bit, add the garlic, mushroom, mustard, water, Maggi Magic Sarap, cream, grated cheese, salt, and black pepper. Continue stirring until it becomes well combined.
- In three separate containers, prepare the flour, beaten eggs, and breadcrumbs. Season the eggs with salt. Season the flour with salt, garlic powder, paprika, and black pepper. Mix well.
- After the chicken has been chilled, unwrap it and coat it in the flour, egg, and breadcrumbs. Once it is fully coated, set it aside.
- In a pot, heat the oil. Fry the Chicken Cordon Bleu. Make ssure to keep moving it around so it cooks evenly and does not burn. You will know it is cooked when the cheese starts to ooze out. When it is cooked, remove it from the pot and place it on a rack to let the excess oil drip off.
- You can leave it in the oven if you are preparing it beforehand. Slice it or serve it whole is up to you. Pour gravy on it and serve.
