Vegetables are usually filled with stories of bitterness and dislike, making them the often avoided ingredient that several people only grow to tolerate once they become adults. People must get creative to make these ingredients become a delightful meal that everyone can fall in love with.
With crisp vegetables softening as they absorb the various seasonings, the ground pork offers its delectable juices to create a pleasant meal that will have you asking for another serving. The saltiness of the patis, the unique sea-like flavor of the oyster sauce, and the creamy peanut sauce make eating Lumpiang Gulay even more special.
Lumpiang Gulay Three-Ways
Ingredients
Lumpia Filling:
- Oil, for sautéing
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup onion, minced
- 200 g. ground pork
- 2 Tbsps. Maggi Oyster Sauce
- 1/2 cup carrot, julienned
- 1 1/2 cup chayote, julienned
- 1/2 cup green beans, julienned
- 1 pc. Maggi Magic Chicken Cube
- 200 g. beansprout
- 200 g. cabbage, shredded
- 100 g. shrimp, diced
- 200 g. fried tofu, sliced
- Fish sauce and black pepper, to taste
- 2 Tbsps. sesame oil
Slurry:
- Cornstarch
- Water
Peanut Sauce:
- 2 3/4 cups water
- 6 Tbsps. sugar
- 3 Tbsps. Maggi Oyster Sauce
- 3 Tbsps. starch
- 5 Tbsps. peanut butter
- 1 pc. Maggi Magic Chicken Cube
- 1 cloves garlic, grated
- Black pepper
Garnish:
- Peanuts, chopped
- Wansuy
- Garlic, grated
Instructions
- In a pot, heat the oil. Fry the tofu.
- Prepare the ingredients. Julienne the carrot and cut the tofu into strips.
- In a pan, heat the oil. Sauté the garlic, onion, and ground pork. Season with oyster sauce.
- When the ground pork is cooked, add the carrot, sayote, and green beans.
- Cut the cabbage into thin slices.
- Season the ground pork and vegetables with the Maggi Magic Chicken Cube. Add the bean sprouts, cabbage, and shrimp. Toss it all together.
- Once the vegetables have softened, add the fried tofu. Season with patis, black pepper, and sesame oil. Toss.
- In a bowl, mix water and cornstarch. Add it to the pan. Mix.
- Transfer the lumpia filling onto a plate. Set aside.
- In a pot with water, add the brown sugar, Maggi Oyster Sauce, and cornstarch. Mix it all together until it becomes fully incorporated with each other. Once it starts heating up, add the peanut butter and Maggi Magic Chicken Cube. Make sure to mix it well, so everything dissolves properly. Add the raw garlic and water. Season with black pepper.
- Garnish the lumpia filling with wansuy and garlic.
Lumpiang Gulay Bowl
Ingredients
- Lumpia Wrappers
- Oil, for frying
Garnish:
- Peanuts, chopped
- Wansuy
- Garlic, grated
Instructions
- Press the lumpia wrappers between two spider ladles and dip them into the pot with hot oil. Let it cook until it sets into the shape of a bowl. Once cooked, arrange it on a plate. Scoop the lumpia filling and place it into the lumpia bowl. Garnish it with peanuts and wansuy. Serve the peanut sauce on the side.
Lumpiang Gulay Wrap
Ingredients
- Lumpia wrappers
- Lettuce
- Sriracha sauce
- Lumpia filling
Garnish:
- Peanuts, chopped
- Wansuy
- Garlic, grated
Instructions
- Arrange the lumpia wrappers on a plate. Place the lettuce in the middle and pour Sriracha sauce over it. Add the lumpia filling, garlic, peanut, and brown sugar. Roll it tight. Serve it with the peanut sauce poured over the rolled lumpia. Garnish with peanut, garlic, and wansuy.
This recipe can be enjoyed in a wrapper or with the accompaniment of rice, allowing you to choose how you want to experience this enticing vegetable dish. With the addition of the creamy peanut sauce which has the strong taste of garlic, eating vegetables has never been this pleasant.
