Binangkal is a bread recipe that is crisp on the outside, but fully on the inside, creating a delicious snack recipe that has two different textures. Just make sure not to get the oil too hot or you might burn the dough before it even gets cooked.
To ensure that you are able to make use of most of the batter, wet your hands first before forming the Binangkal into balls and rolling it in sesame seeds. You can control the size of the balls depending on how soft you want the inside to be.
Binangkal
Ingredients
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tsp. baking powder
- ½ tsp. baking soda
- ½ tsp. salt
- ¼ cup oil
- ½ cup sugar
- 1 cup evaporated milk
- ½ cup sesame seeds
- Oil, for frying
Instructions
- In a bowl, add the flour, sugar, salt, baking powder, and baking soda. Make sure to pass all the dry ingredients through a sieve to make it smooth and uniform. Make a well in the middle.
- Within the well made in the dry ingredients within the bowl, add the evaporated milk and vegetable oil. Mix well.
- In a pan, heat the oil.
- Wet the spoon and the palm of your hand. Your hand should be clean while handling the dough. Get a spoonful, wet both hands, then form it into a bowl. Once formed, roll it in sesame seeds. P{lace the fully formed ball on a plate. Repeat until all the dough has been used.
- Drop the formed dough into the pan. Make sure to move it around so it cooks evenly.
- You can also try to make churros and pretzel versions.
- When the Binangkal has turned brown, remove it from the pan and place it in a colander to let the excess oil drip off.
- You can fry the other versions of Binangkal next. Remember to move it around so it cooks evenly.
- Once the other versions of the Binangkal have become golden-brown, remove it from the pan. Let the excess oil drip off. Prepare a chocolate dip for the churros version.
Once the Binangkal is cooked, you can store it to enjoy a snack whenever you want to. Just make sure not to wait too long, or it might be beyond saving rather than being more delicious as more time passes. You could make this for those who used to enjoy this dish when they were young, allowing them to reminisce their childhood with each bite.
