The onslaught of Typhoon Ulysses has left parts of the country severely devastated and one of the worse hit was the province of Rizal.
Simpol has responded by the creation of Sulong Simpol, a relief operations initiative started by Chef Tatung Sarthou that aims to provide hot meals for people stricken by the typhoon. What started as a spontaneous response to help has grown into an organized effort by the group.
Sulong simpol was at Sitio Libis, Brgy. Rosario, in Rodriguez, Rizal last November 22 to provide 1100 food packs for the said residents. They also provided facemasks, hygiene supplies and clothing from various contributors and donors. Sulong Simplo also did relief operations in Baras, Rizal and Marikina as well.
According to Chef Tatung, Sulong Simpol is only a small effort by their group. He says, Sulong Simpol was inspired by other groups that have responded to the needs of the affected communities: “We just want to do our share so we can all get back on our feet”.
Hundreds of families were forced out of their homes as parts of Rodriquez was submerged in floodwater amid heavy rains brought by Typhoon Ulysses (international name Vamco)
