Nothing more special than a homemade empanada from scratch! Be amazed how easy this recipe can be! Just a little effort and time, you will enjoy the rustic and tasty filling inside all-in-one!

Serves 5 to 6.

 For the Empanada:

INGREDIENTS:

Set A:

  • 1 ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
  • 1 ½ teaspoon fine salt

Set B:

  • 4 tablespoons Golden Fiesta Canola Oil
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter

Set C:

  • 1 egg, lightly beaten
  • 1 teaspoon vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons water

Chef Tatung’s Tip:  

  • If the dough becomes too soft to handle, chill briefly until it firms up again.

For the Picadillo:

INGREDIENTS:

Set A:

  • 350 grams ground pork
  • 2 tablespoons cooking oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 piece onion, minced
  • 1 piece tomato, diced
  • 350 grams ground pork (1 1/3 cups)
  • 4 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • Salt, to taste
  • 2 tablespoons tomato sauce (optional)

Set B (optional, you can use any combination of your preference):

  • 1 piece potato, diced
  • 1 piece carrot, diced
  • 1 piece red bell pepper, diced
  • 3/4 cup green peas
  • 1/2 cup raisins

Chef Tatung’s Tip:

  • You can use ground beef or chicken for this recipe as well.
  • Soak the potatoes in water to maintain its freshness and color.
