Let’s turn our classic Bulalo into an automatic crowd pleaser! Surely, this beef shank served with flavorful gravy on a sizzling plate will surprise your family!

Serves 3 to 4.

Ingredients:

Set A:

  • 800 to 900 grams beef shanks (bulalo)
  • Water, for boiling
  • 1 tablespoon salt (or 1 pack seasoning granules)
  • 1 piece onion, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper

Set B (Gravy):

  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 4 tablespoons flour
  • 2 cups beef stock (from boiling liquid)
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon whole peppercorns

Set C:

  • 2 tablespoons margarine or butter, or as needed
  • Fried garlic, for garnish

Chef Tatung’s Tips:

  • You can add mushrooms to the gravy or add as a garnish. Just sauté in a little butter and season lightly with salt.
  • You can add 2 tablespoons of cream to the gravy for more richness or some dried herbs for more flavor.
