With a savoriness that can be likened to chicken wings, this Soy Garlic Tofu can be both ulam or pika-pika depending on your mood and plans. Its simple ingredients and quick cooking time makes it a delight that can be enjoyed within minutes.

Its deliciousness and convenience will make you want to cook a lot in a single batch, but be careful of leftovers because it might not be crispy as a fresh batch of this savory delight. Soy Garlic Tofu

Ingredients

  • 1 pack firm tofu, diced
  • 1 cup cornstarch
  • Salt
  • Oil, for frying

Glaze:

  • ¼ Tbsp. soy sauce
  • 4 cloves garlic
  • ¼ Tbsp. water
  • ¼ Tbsp. sugar
  • 1 Tbsp. sesame oil
  • 1 Tbsp. ginger, grated

Garnish:

  • Sesame seeds
  • Spring onions

Instructions

  • Dice the firm tofu and transfer it to a plate with cornstarch. Toss until all the tofu is fully covered in the cornstarch.
  • In a pan, heat the oil. Fry the tofu until it becomes crispy. Make sure to move it around occasionally so it fries evenly.
  • While the tofu is cooking, prepare the glaze. In a pot, add the soy sauce, sugar, water, banana catsup, ginger, garlic, and sesame oil. Mix it all together until the sugar dissolves.
  • When the tofu has cripsed up, remove it from the oil and place it in a colander to let the excess oil drip off.
  • Place the pot with the glaze on the stove. Cook until you reach the right consistency.
  • Transfer the fried tofu to a bowl. Pour the glaze over it and toss until all the tofu is evenly covered in the glaze.
  • Garnish with sesame seeds and spring onions.

This Soy Garlic Tofu is the perfect alternative to chicken wings, especially if you want the same flavor profile but with a healthier feel. Just make sure to cook the tofu until it is perfectly crispy so you can get the same satisfying crunch with every bite. You could even personalize the glaze more to fit your preference.
